PEPTIDE SYNTHESIS LAB EQUIPMENT

Peptide synthesis and purification: the equipment, step by step.

Making peptides takes more than a synthesizer. Here is every step from resin to dry powder, the instrument each one needs, and what we stock or can find for you, refurbished.

From resin to powder, step by step.

01
Synthesize An automated solid-phase synthesizer builds the chain one amino acid at a time on resin. Microwave models (CEM Liberty Blue, Biotage Initiator+ Alstra) heat each coupling to cut cycle time; room-temperature models (Gyros Protein Technologies, CSBio, AAPPTec) run many peptides side by side.
02
Cleave and precipitate A TFA cocktail cuts the peptide off the resin and strips its protecting groups, in a fume hood. Cold ether brings the crude peptide out of solution, and a centrifuge pellets it. Centrifuges
03
Purify Preparative reversed-phase HPLC with a fraction collector separates the target peptide from deletion and truncated sequences.
04
Check the fractions Analytical HPLC and LC-MS pick the fractions to pool: the right mass at the purity you need. HPLC for peptide purity
05
Dry Rotary or nitrogen evaporation takes off the organic solvent, then a freeze dryer (lyophilizer) turns the peptide into a stable powder.
06
Test and store The finished lot gets its COA tests, then goes into a lab freezer, cold and dry. Peptide testing lab equipment

Synthesizers

Peptide synthesizers. Found and tested for you.

We have listed synthesizers such as the Biotage Initiator+ microwave peptide synthesizer and the Applied Biosystems 432A, and we source tested units on request. Tell us your scale (milligrams or grams), how many peptides you run at once and whether you want microwave heating, and we will look for a unit and test it before it ships.

On the used market, older microwave units sell from about $7,500 and newer microwave models for about $30,000. New systems are priced by quote and cost far more. Several older room-temperature models are discontinued and now sold only used.

Purification

Preparative HPLC for peptide purification.

Prep HPLC uses the same chemistry as analytical HPLC on a bigger scale: wider columns, higher flow and a fraction collector. We stock Agilent 1100, 1200 and 1260 preparative pumps, preparative autosamplers and fraction collectors, and a Waters 2545 binary gradient module, and we can build a tested prep system around your column size. These modules are not listed one by one; ask for a quote.

Peptide synthesis questions.

An automated solid-phase synthesizer, a fume hood for cleavage, a centrifuge, a preparative HPLC with a fraction collector, an evaporator, a freeze dryer and a freezer. To release each lot you also need an analytical HPLC and an LC-MS; see peptide testing lab equipment.

Used units we have seen listed run from about $7,500 for an older microwave model to about $30,000 for a newer one. New synthesizers are priced by quote and cost far more. Tell us your scale and we will look for a tested unit.

Microwave heating shortens each coupling and helps with difficult sequences. Room-temperature synthesizers are simpler and often run many peptides in parallel. Your sequences, scale and throughput decide.

Analytical HPLC measures a small injection and tells you what is in it. Preparative HPLC uses wider columns and higher flow to separate and collect grams of the target peptide.
